Welcome to the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center
The Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center celebrates the life and literature of Mari Sandoz and the culture of the High Plains through the acquisition, preservation, display, and interpretation of archival materials, records, documents, books, specimens, and artifacts of this region.
The Center features exhibit galleries, a preservation/ preparation workroom equipped with a digital imaging laboratory, and an archival library. An adjoining two-story atrium, named for lead donors, Vernon P. and Madge Fortune Chicoine, provides additional space for exhibits, meetings, social events, seminars and workshops. The area surrounding the Center supports the work that goes on inside. These areas include the campus-wide arboretum, the hiking-biking heritage trail, and the Heritage Gardens.
These facilities support CSC's academic programs, including the Museum Studies program, distance learning courses, and educational activities for the region's primary and secondary school students and teachers.
